      <title>Editorial: Putting History back to the Track</title>
      <description>In the modern world which is shaped, to a great extent, by the West, we often hear of human rights, individual freedom, women’s rights, rights of children, and of religious, cultural and political freedom. But we must remind ourselves that these concepts had not come into being after the industrial revolution in the eighteenth century. Rather, in popularizing these concepts and the fact that human beings have now greater avenues for their self-expression than ever before are the results of the movements spearheaded by the prophets, and in Muhammad’s message one finds the scope for the realization of the infinite possibilities in men. Islam is not only the religion of those who call themselves Muslims in a juridical sense, but all the pious souls can take refuge in it and share in the blessings of God

      <description>It is great tragedy that Muslims have reified Shari’ah instead of values it is based on. One has to understand philosophy of law. No law, however exalted philosophy it is based on, can become permanent. Only the values on which these laws are based can be treated as permanent. Unfortunately Muslims, even jurists, are unable to make this important distinction. They treat Shari’ah as divine instead of principles, it is based on. Principles have been given by the Qur’an and hence are divine.

      <description>“Islam has long vanished from the stage of history, and has retreated into oriental ease and repose”, were the words of the German philosopher George Friedrich Hegel in the middle of the nineteenth century. But as Martin Kramer, senior associate of the Moshe Dayan Centre at Tel Aviv University, remarks at Hegel's 'endist' predictions, "The persistent refusal of Islam to do just that remains one of the principal flaws of 'endism,' from Hegel to this day…" It's certainly true, despite emerging fifteen centuries ago, Islam features considerably in current global politics and has far from vanished. The phenomenon of movements advocating a 'revival' of seventh century Islam can be perplexing and their stated goal - an Islamic rule - lends itself to a number of possible criticisms.

      <description>Western theories of body and mind have been mainly informed by Cartesian philosophy which is presently being challenged by various scientists. Cartesianism is one of many models that professes how human beings experience the world. In Sam Harris’s words, the history of science and religion is a human attempt towards “exploring and modifying consciousness.” At present, new technologies are on the verge of redefining the boundaries of human embodiment through the fusion of humans and machines. This paper proposes that the insights of the medieval Islamic mystic Ibn Arabi offer a way of understanding new forms of embodiment which will arise in the future.
